Kodaikanal Lake

The manmade Kodaikanal Lake is one of the most popular lakes in Tamil Nadu. This 150 year old lake presents not just a place to cool your senses, but is also a treasure trove of interesting facts. Whether manmade or natural, lakes have been a haven for tourists rushing to higher altitudes to escape, albeit briefly, the heat of tropical summers.

A Lake was created in 1863 by Vera Levinge, a former District Collector of Madurai by constructing a strong bund across the marshy land with several streams in the valley. The lake is surrounded by a 5 km road. The lake and its surroundings are extensively used by tourists for boating, sailing, angling, walking, cycling, horse riding and other leisure activities.

Dolmen Circle

The dolmen is made up of two large erect stone slabs, which are topped by larger flat slab. Many dolmens were destroyed, however at present they can be seen intact in two places namely Perumal Peak and Shenbaganur Museum.

Dolmen Circle, located in proximity to Parvatha Vihar and the Pannikadu village, is one of the major attractions of the destination. The hill station of Kodaikanal has marked a place for itself on anthropology map, because of the presence of pre historic remains, which date back to 5,000 BC.

Berijam Lake

A calm serene lake surrounded by mesmerizing nature at a distance of around 21 kms from Kodaikanal. Berijam lake is the most beautiful lake in all of South India. Originally discovered by the British & Spanish people, this place was a swamp 80-100 years ago

Coaker’sWalk

One of the most famous walks offered by the hill station is the Coaker’s Walk. If you like to embrace the beauty of the picturesque valleys while strolling around then this must interest you. Watch the snow-clad mountains beneath us or enjoy the sunrise at its best from here, this walk is going to be a treat for our senses. Constructed by Lt. Coaker in the year 1872, this one km pedestrian pathway is a like mountain road that is right along the edge of the mountain slopes. It lies around half a km away from the main town and is on its southern side.

Pillar Rocks

Located in the speckled woods of the valley are three naturally entwined huge rocks standing absolutely erect and shoulder to shoulder. Around 7.5km from Kodai Lake, this attraction is 400ft high and its in-between chasm is famously called вЂ˜Devil’s Kitchen’. A small and beautifully tended garden, glowing in the colors of the seasonal blooms adds to the charm and the picture perfect beauty of the place.

The rock pillars have hidden nooks and corners and cavernous chasms that exude an aura of mystery that delights all adventure enthusiasts. If you have some time and are a nature lover you just have to go and visit the Pillar Rocks in Kodaikanal.

Bear Shola Falls

Bear Shola Falls is a seasonal waterfall and also situated around 3 km away from the Kodaikanal Bus Stand. The falls get their name, as it is believed that this cascade was the drinking place of the bears of the reserve forest around. вЂ˜Shola’ is a type of forest that surrounds the cascade and is found in the Nilgiri Mountains.

The best time to visit the Bear Shola Falls is during the monsoon season, when the water in the falls is full. Ideally the months of October to May are the most visited months to the Bear Shola Falls.

Pine Forest

Mr. Bryant started pine plantations in Kodaikanal in 1906. These pine trees enveloped in mist are distinctly characteristic of Kodaikanal today. Pine forest kodaikanal is situated at a distance of 7.8 kms from kodaikanal bus stand.

These meticulous pine forest are eerie since the majority of the cones and needles had dried out and the pine needles-leafs covered the forest floor and branches in a weird shade of grey white

Christ the King Church

Christ the King Church is a typical example of Gothic architecture and is made of granite. A series of stained glasses adorns the windows of the church and wooden chairs are placed in front of the altar. The main altar has a beautiful image of Lord Jesus.The building of this church was built by American Madurai Mission in 1895. Previously known as the Union Church, this Protestant Church from the colonial period has a clear influence of colonial architecture.

Chettiar Park

Chettiar Park attracts thousands of tourists from different cities and states of the country. A stunning park, located approximately 3 km away from the Kodaikanal Bus Stand.

Shenbaganur Museum

Shenbaganur Museum is maintained by the Sacred Heart College – Theological Seminary founded in 1895. It is devoted to archaeological remains and the flora and fauna of the hills.This museum also houses an orchidarium, which has a collection of around 300 species of exotic and indigenous orchids. In addition, the museum also preserves fossils along with wide varieties of flora and fauna. Moreover, it is one of the best places to visit by those who want to gain knowledge about the traditional culture of South India.

La saleth church kodaikanal is situated at a distance of 2kms from kodaikanal bus stand. an extraordinary celebration takes places at la saleth church every year on the 14th and 15th of August .this brings about the conclusion of a Nine -day festival .this celebration attracts worshipers from entire south India.
